Wimbledon tennis photography is Duncan’s speciality and passion – his Fellowship of The Royal Photographic Society was awarded on the strength of a panel of 20 images captured during Wimbledon 2010.  More of Duncan Wimbledon tennis images can be seen here .

Despite the sometimes torrential rain with steamed-up lenses and freezing cold fingers (it actually snowed!), as ever he enjoyed the experience immensely.  There is no other event like this.  The crews are elite, world-class athletes who also have the intellectual ability to be accepted into two of the top Universities in the world.  Their training requires months of early starts on the river in the mid of winter and they still have to maintain their studies.  Despite the event’s international profile the crews are all amateurs. The nature of the event requires them to be team players and it is sport in its purest. There are no silver medals, just a winning team and a losing team.

It is the way of these things that the images were needed “yesterday” and “today” was just about the gloomiest of the year, with torrential rain!  The planned natural light shots were not a realistic option and the exterior was shot at dusk in order to avoid the grey skies and hide the rain!

Since Alister is based in New York it was “one of those promises that was never going to happen” but on this occasion it did!  Duncan, assisted by John Horne ARPS, spent an entire day with Alister in a studio and at outside locations shooting a portfolio for Alisiter’s modelling work.  The results can be seen at http://www.duncangrove.com/alister-walker .

August 2012.  London’s iconic, art-deco Freemason’s Hall is the venue for this year’s Professional Jeweller Magazine’s Hot 100 party on Tue 4 Sep 2012.  People are queuing to roll-up their trouser legs in an attempt to get an invite!  Only the great, glamorous and good (and sometimes not so good!) movers and shakers from the jewellery industry will be amongst the select 700 invited party-goers and sadly many aspiring guests will have to hope for better luck next year.  During the party, the Hot 100 (the 100 most influential and forward-thinking members of the jewellery industry) will be announced and celebrated.

Again, Duncan Grove Photography will be there to record the fun and glamour, with three shooters and oodles of equipment to ensure the job is done professionally.  In truth ”job” is not the word - this is no “job”.  Despite for instance Duncan’s love of Wimbledon tennis photography and his enormous respect for the accreditation privileges that are afforded him there, the Hot 100 party remains the highlight of his photography year.  It is such a fun night!

f2 Freelancer Photographer interviewed Duncan about his experience of using the (amazingly good!) It was a rather wet Wimbledon and Andy didn’t quite make it but as always, Duncan had a great two weeks shooting The Wimbledon Tennis Chapionships 2012 as an accredited photographer.  Galleries from each day can be seen here.

June 2012.  With a circulation in excess of 60,000, International Tennis Magazine is the UK’s highest circulation magazine of its type.  Whilst it is a paper publication, a free on-line edition is also available here . Duncan shoots for both this magazine and its sister, International Squash Magazine.  This month ITM have used his image of Wimbledon’s No 1 Court at dusk for their inside front cover.  (Please note the contact telephone number for Duncan is out of date.  He can be contacted via this site.)

For the third consecutive year Duncan Grove FRPS has again secured photographer accreditation for the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.  This is the UK’s largest sporting event and applications far exceed the number of accreditations issued.  Duncan will be shooting on behalf of the UK’s highest circulation specialist publication – International Tennis Magazine. He will also be uploading daily to his news agencies and is available for freelance commissions during the Championships.

In April 2012 he took delivery from the first batch of ground breaking Nikon D800E models.  Whilst it shares some features with the D4, the D800E has an industry-leading 36Mp sensor that delivers unbelievable detail and represents the ultimate landscape and studio DSLR. The pairing of these three flagship Nikon bodies provides Duncan with the ultimate tools to capture images, whatever the prevailing conditions or photographic objective.  Coupled with his in-depth knowledge of what all the various buttons do, he is well placed to capture some stunning images if only he could work out in which order those pesky little buttons need to be pressed!

March 2012.  In the past Nikon have several times kindly loaned Duncan a 16mm f/2.8 fisheye lens.  It is not the sort of lens to be used everyday but is handy if you want to “try to make something of nothing”.  Duncan used the loan lens to capture shots such as those below.  Inevitably there was method in Nikon’s generous madness because Duncan has now decided that the lens desrbes a permanent place in his camera bag!
